Plain-language version: this is an education site. Use it to learn how houses work, don’t treat it as advice about your own house, and don’t republish the material as your own.
Last updated September 22, 2026. These terms cover structresi.com. Content on YouTube, Patreon, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook is also subject to those platforms’ terms.
1. Agreement
By using structresi.com you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. StructResi is an independent educational project run by a licensed professional engineer in Wisconsin in his personal capacity.
2. Educational content, not engineering advice
Everything on StructResi is general educational material. It is not engineering advice, an inspection, an evaluation, or a design for any specific property, and it is not a substitute for one. Reading, watching, commenting, subscribing, or becoming a member does not create an engineer–client relationship. Building codes, soil conditions, materials, and construction practices vary by location and era, and a condition that is minor in one house can be serious in another. Do not make, skip, or specify structural repairs based on this content alone. If you have a real problem, have a licensed professional engineer in your state look at it in person.
StructResi does not offer engineering services. Nothing on this site is an offer to inspect, design, consult, or review, and no request made through the site, by email, or in a comment will be treated as one.
3. Using the content
The text, videos, 3D models, animations, graphics, checklists, and other material on structresi.com and StructResi’s channels are © StructResi, all rights reserved, unless marked otherwise. You are welcome to watch, read, link to, and share links to anything here; quote short excerpts with attribution to StructResi; and show StructResi videos in classes, training sessions, or team meetings, with attribution, at no charge. You may not copy or republish videos, articles, models, or graphics in whole or substantial part; remove or edit out the disclaimers; present the material as your own; or use the StructResi name or logo in a way that suggests StructResi endorses you, your company, or your product. For anything beyond that, ask first at [email protected].
4. Patreon materials
Write-ups, specifications, checklists, calculations, spreadsheets, and model files offered through Patreon are educational examples. They are not sealed engineering deliverables, have not been prepared for any specific project, and are not for construction. They must be independently reviewed by a licensed professional engineer before being relied on for any design, repair, or construction decision. Downloads are licensed to the member for personal and internal educational use and may not be resold or redistributed. Patreon’s own terms and billing rules also apply to memberships.
5. Affiliate links and sponsorships
Some links, mainly on the Tools page, are affiliate links. If you buy through them StructResi may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases; StructResi also participates in affiliate programs with The Home Depot and Lowe’s. Commissions do not change what is recommended or what you pay. Products, prices, availability, shipping, and returns are the retailer’s responsibility, not StructResi’s. Any sponsored content will be disclosed in the video and in its description. The sponsor pays for the placement; the opinions and the engineering remain StructResi’s.
6. Other websites
The site links to YouTube, Patreon, social platforms, retailers, and reference sources. Those sites are run by other people under their own terms and privacy policies. StructResi is not responsible for their content, availability, or practices.
7. No warranties
The site and its content are provided as-is. I work to keep the material accurate and current, but codes, research, products, and practices change, and I make no guarantee that anything here is complete, current, or free of errors, or that it applies to any particular building.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, StructResi and its owner are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, or cost arising from use of this site or reliance on its content, including decisions to make, defer, or skip structural repairs without engaging a licensed professional engineer. Your only remedy if you are unhappy with the site is to stop using it.
9. Messages and suggestions
If you send a question, idea, or story by email or in a comment, you agree that StructResi may use it, without identifying you or your property, in future educational content. Please do not send addresses, property details, or photos expecting an assessment; StructResi cannot evaluate a specific property and will not.
10. Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time. The date at the top reflects the current version, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept it.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
